Come, Lord Jesus, Come…

Advent is that time of watching and waiting. Our anticipation of Christmas joy is a glimpse of the cosmic watching and waiting for the Day of the Lord. The day when God will make all things right, and the liberating, life-giving love of Jesus is realized in all the world. All is healed, all is well, all is whole. Shalom.

In this, Advent is a time of “already/not yet.” God has already come in Jesus. We are already saved through his life, death and resurrection. And in God, in eternity, all is well. Already.

And yet…not yet… We who are creatures of time live in the “not yet,” so we can lose sight of what God has already done… and God’s reality of shalom, wholeness, peace…
